Project Description

COMPANY HISTORY

In business, the Foster name began in Preston in 1861, over 150 years ago.  The original roots were in the drapery industry and then textile machinery, pioneering, developing, patenting and manufacturing these products and selling them around Europe and the World.

Through expansion of the services and products provided to their clients, the selling of ‘time recording’ equipment during the textile boom of the 1950’s by W & J Foster Limited led to an approach from Zenith for Fosters to sell tachographs in the United Kingdom and so evolved Foster Tachographs Limited.
That was in September 1967, 50 years and counting, leading the field, first in bureau analysis and subsequently, again developing and evolving to be the UK’s leading experts in EC Drivers’ Hours and Tachograph Regulations, the analysis in Criminal and Forensic matters, Vocational training and the establishing of Compliance Systems referred to as the ‘Gold Standard*’.

As the Company has grown in recent years, under the 5th Generation of the Foster Family, Gordon Humphreys (Great, Great Grandson of founder James Foster), it has expanded to offer a greater range of audit and compliance systems including those in Vehicle Maintenance, Health and Safety in transport and Operator Licensing.

Foster Tachographs & Transport Compliance has moved with the times, evolved and will continue to work to the highest values, but will always remember the history and the values upon which James Foster began.  In his own guide to Business he wrote his own morals, principles and steps upon which a business should be run. Many of these still apply today including:
