Gordon J F Humphreys MSOE MIRTE

Managing Director and Senior Consultant

Gordon is widely recognised as the UK’s leading expert in EC Drivers’ Hours, Tachographs and Tachograph Systems, as well as being a member of the Society of Engineers and the Institute of Road Transport Engineers.

Since taking over as managing director of Foster Tachographs Limited nearly 30 years ago, he has specialised in accident/incident Tachograph chart analysis in legal cases on behalf of both the prosecution and defence. He has also been called as an expert witness in cases of corporate manslaughter, conspiracy, causing death by dangerous driving, drug smuggling, and theft.

His duties during these cases have ranged from the route plotting of vehicles, EC Drivers’ Hours and Tachograph regulations, to UK domestic regulations and civil matters. He has attended court for hearings across the United Kingdom and Ireland, including the Old Bailey. With an expert eye on prevention, he also provides dedicated Driver CPC training.

Alan Backhouse

Director and Trainer

Alan gained most of his HGV driving experience in the 1970’s with a mix of UK/European general haulage including flats, liquid and powder tankers, tilts and fridge trailers. He then embarked on a career in sales management before setting up his own haulage operation as an owner-driver from 1990-1992 at which time he gained his Transport Manager CPC.

During the remainder of the 1990’s he was MD at two pharmacy distribution companies specialising in multi-drop deliveries within this sector.

In 2004 he set-up his own import business supplying the UK pharmacy market and subsequently sold this in 2013.

Alan has continued to have an interest in the transport industry throughout his working life and he has now acquired JAUPT accreditation as a CPC trainer and joins Foster CPC Training Ltd to fulfil this role.
